Preamble

Seeking to achieve and develop the principles of judicial independence as the foundation and guarantee of maintaining justice in civil society, taking into account the Basic Principles on the Independence of the Judiciary (UN 1985), the European Charter on the Statute for Judges (Council of Europe 1998) and other documents forming the European acquis, protecting and representing the professional values of Slovak judges, the Association of Judges of Slovakia has identified the fundamental areas in which it wants to achieve the following goals by the means mentioned.

Judicial independence, status of judges

To strive for equal status of the judiciary by promoting legal amendments aimed at reducing the excessive influence of the executive power. To protect the judiciary from inadmissible interference with the independence of courts and judges. To expand the competences of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic and to promote the creation of the Judicial Council so that the law guarantees a majority of judges elected by judges. To achieve financial independence of the judiciary by creating a separate budget chapter for courts. To promote effective systems for evaluating the work of judges, ensure professional growth and optimal working conditions.

  • Structure and work in the Association of Judges of Slovakia

    To improve the conditions of contractual cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the Judicial Academy. To use electronic communication with all members of the Association of Judges of Slovakia. To seek new funding opportunities including the use of EU funds and increased subsidy from the Ministry of Justice.

  • Working conditions of judges, material guarantees and social program

    To achieve comparable material and social level of judges with other developed countries. To eliminate discrimination in the remuneration of judges and ensure their pension security. To create the necessary material and working conditions at all courts.

  • Strengthening the ethical awareness of judges

    To create an effective mechanism to combat corruption and strengthen judicial ethics. To participate in the preparation of a new Code of Conduct for Judges. To educate judges in the field of ethics and support the interest of young colleagues in this topic.

  • Increasing positive perception of the judiciary in the public

    To organize regular press conferences and initiate a strategy for media coverage of positive news. To contribute to objective informing of the public about the activities of courts. To seek new forms of cooperation with the media and strengthen legal awareness in society.
