International Association of Judges – One Thousand Robes webinar: programme on 12 January 2026

Dear Colleagues,

Following the invitation to our 1000 Robes webinar on 12 January, we are happy to present a detailed plan of the meeting.

The aim of this webinar is to demonstrate the importance of judicial independence to all society, especially those who are faced with court proceedings.

We will have judicial stories from four regions of the world, reflecting the IAJ four Regional Groups, with a welcome speech by Walter Barone, the President of the International Association of Judges.

We will begin our trip in Europe, represented by Italian judge Monica Mastrandrea.

Then we’ll go to Latin America with the President of the Iberoamerican Group Adriana Orocu.

Afterwards judge Aicha Benbelhassen will take us to Africa to hear the story about brave Tunisian judges, struggling for freedom of speech and facing imprisonment.

We will end our trip around the globe in the United States of America with a report from Honorable Judge Cynthia Rufe, who will describe to us the latest developments undermining the protection of civil rights and liberties in the cradle of democracy.

The final speech will be delivered by the President of the European Association of Judges, Sabine Matejka.

All participants are welcome to leave their questions or comments in the chat. We will have a sum-up of this interaction at the end of the meeting.

We are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!
